SERVICE &
STEWARDSHIP
As a growing youth-led organization, various mission-driven initiatives arise to address the immediate needs and interests of our refugee families.
GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND.
All refugee youth who participate in REACH receive support services to help them reach their potential and feel fully supported in all areas of their lives. A key component of REACH is to conduct home visits to meet with parents and participating youth and assess their progress in school, at home, and within their social networks.
As a growing youth-led organization, various mission-driven initiatives arise to address the immediate needs and interests of our participating families. During the COVID-19 pandemic, REACH has facilitated virtual adventure camps, bike give-aways, college-readiness advising, and garden-in-a-box or camp-in-a-box projects.
Rivers & Streams Stewardship
REACH youth are dedicated to preserving our natural waterways through hands-on river cleanups and stream maintenance activities. Our engaging learning exercises empower young people to understand the importance of environmental stewardship. Join us in making a difference as we work together to protect our local rivers and streams!
Public Engagement
REACH youth are empowered to connect with the community and public officials through engaging presentations and speaking opportunities. Our programming equips refugees with the skills needed to effectively communicate their ideas and advocate for their causes. By fostering confidence and leadership, we encourage them to make a positive impact in their communities.
Nature Navigators
REACH youth leaders have designed and facilitated multiple public outdoor events to help others discover the outdoors in their backyards with immersive outdoor experiences that bridge cultures, connect newcomers to nature, and celebrate the spirit of adventure.
Connecting Newcomers to Nature
This youth-led workshop brought together newcomer community members and their allies who want to break down barriers to new experiences in our local green and blue spaces, using nature to help refugees and immigrants heal from trauma and find joy.
Intl. Humanitarian Law Simulation
At this interactive, public, outdoor event, our youth employed experiential learning activities to strengthen the relationships between refugee youth and their new land. We shared the refugee experience, supported outdoor adventures, and built connections among our Chicago neighbors!
